Scientific American Frontiers
Scientific American Frontiers is a popular and long-running series produced by Chedd-Angier for PBS. Alan Alda is the host. Each broadcast season, October-April, 10 new one-hour episodes are shown on the nation's 347 public television stations, and worldwide on the National Geographic Channel. Frontiers uses the format of Discover: The World of Science, also created by Chedd-Angier and the first full-length science magazine on American TV. The success of Scientific American Frontiers grows out of a light and informal approach to subjects that can be complex and intimidating. Stories are built around spontaneous, laughter-filled encounters between Alan Alda and scientists, wherever their research may be happening - clambering up a radiotelescope or diving on a coral reef. "It's like a wonderful hobby for me," says Alan, "because I get to talk to some of the smartest people on the planet. It's just fun to hear how their brains work."
