River Music Experience

Davenport, IA

Chedd-Angier-Lewis developed the inaugural media exhibits for the River Music Experience in Davenport, Iowa, a museum celebrating the music and music heritage of ‘America’s River’.

River Wall is an 81 foot immersive musical history projected onto the museum gallery walls. Using track ball and button, visitors are invited to browse and interact with nearly a century’s worth of audio, video, text and interactive activities documenting the close relationship between the Mississippi and the dissemination of American music.

Using six unique ports as an organizing principle – from New Orleans through the Delta to Memphis and beyond – ‘River Wall’ chronicles the development of American roots music by concentrating on the genres associated with each particular region. Jazz, blues, zydeco, country and rock & roll are just a few of the styles explored in depth through the use of sounds and images.

As part of the River Music Experience, Chedd-Angier-Lewis also created Earport, an interactive music library in which visitors can search a vast database of music information by artist, instrument, musical style, and community. The Earport exhibit contains over 300 biographies and 1,000 audio files covering American music and those influenced by it.
