“Exploring Maya Ceramics” is a 40” interactive touchscreen interpreting part of the Ancient Americas collection at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The display, situated in the first gallery inside the main entrance, is designed to attract visitors to learn more about the museum’s collection of ancient Maya ceramics. Through a simple and intuitive interface, the touchscreen helps visitors to de-code the complex stories on the elaborately painted vessels. Built from large-scale, high-resolution photographs of prized objects in the museum’s collection, the application gives visitors the tools to scan and magnify the surface of the vessels, rewarding curiosity with the latest scholarship about Maya society.
